Prescott Outdoors  > Nature > Nesting - Red-Tailed Hawks
I am photographed a pair of Red-Tailed Hawks last spring.
I watched them all year soaring over the lake. They mated and started sitting on the nest in March.
I took my first trip to the nest on April 1, 2008. One chick was hatched.
I took almost 4000 shots of the nesting, Mom, Dad and Baby and never disturbed them.
The baby left the nest for good in late June.
It was an incredible experience to watch the little one grow to such a beautiful raptor.

Prescott Outdoors > This is how far away from the nest I am shooting from, about 150 yards. You can hardly see the hawks in the nest with your naked eye.
Prescott Outdoors > 4/6/2008 - No little ones yet. Not much activity around the nest today, just the female sitting on the nest.
Prescott Outdoors > 3/29/08 - This is the female sitting on the nest before the leaves even bloomed.
This is my first trip to the nest and she has already been sitting on it for a while, not sure how long but it could be a week or more.
Prescott Outdoors > 4/2/2008 - Today there was a lot of activity around the nest. The male and female were switching off sitting on the egg(s) quite often. Then the other would leave for a while and then come back to sit on the branches just off the nest.
As it turned out there was another RT hawk around the area and there was a brief chase and a lot of noise.. but everything turned out okay.

Prescott Outdoors > 4/18/2008 - I hadn't been to the nest in about 12 days because of the NASCAR shoot I did in Phoenix. I really expected to see some little RT's in the nest but so far still no hatchlings.
Momma was sitting on the nest nice and quiet and except for a couple of times she got up to stretch and look down in the nest there wasn't much activity. It can't be long now !!!
